Juba celebrated International Youth Day with young people voicing concern over unemployment, education, security and other issues that affect them.

Youth in Diaspora representative, Makur Maker, said in his remarks that the youth faces the same challenges inside and outside South Sudan.

He singled unemployment as the biggest challenge that has caused substantial insecurity in some parts of the country.

Mr. Maker said some youths are involved in conflicts and crimes due to lack of work.

He added that cattle rustling is another security thread caused by lack of lack of job opportunities.

He warned the national government to sort out the employment issue to avoid another rebellion in South Sudan.

Youth and Sports Minister Makuac Teny urged the all the youths, boys and girls in South Sudan to unite, discuss their issues together and reach mutual understanding.

The minister announced that the Khartoum government last year availed 3.5 million US dollars for youth development projects.

He said it is up to the youth associations to come up with projects like training centres for vocational skills to access those funds.
