Lakes state deputy director of HIV and AIDS in the Ministry of Health has warned the community against cultural practices that favour the spread of the deadly disease among the community.

Peter Gum told Radio Good News today that the cultural traditions of initiation like markings on the forehead and other scarring and removal of teeth are practices that should be avoided in this era of HIV and AIDS.

Mr. Gum also warned the community against polygamy and widow inheritance saying these cultural practices need to be abandoned because they are risky too.

Mr. Gum promised to give statistics about the HIV and AIDS spread in Lakes state in the days to come.

The Lakes state deputy director of HIV and AIDS revealed that the disease is more dangerous than the war the South fought with the North that has killed two million people.
