A World Bank Africa Region team arrived today in Juba for an 11-day assessment visit to explore ways to strengthen the implementation of development projects financed by the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Southern Sudan.
Laurence Clarke, the Manager of the World Bank Southern Sudan Program and Juba Office, said the visit is a way to strengthen the World Bank’s understanding of the challenges facing the people of Southern Sudan.The World Bank mission to Juba will hold talks with the Government of Southern Sudan and development partners on the ground, including NGOs, in order to assess progress and better understand and appreciate the challenges encountered since the multi-donor fund was set up five years ago.
The mission is expected to make recommendations in order to accelerate implementation of ongoing operations.
The World Bank was chosen by GoSS to manage the moneys from the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Southern Sudan.
The major contributors to the multi-trust fund are Canada, Denmark, Egypt, European Commission, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the World Bank.
