Juba residents welcomed the display of war relics, martyrs photos, and Dr. John Garang’s personal memorabilia in an exhibit that opened yesterday in Juba.

Stephen Lemi, Central Equatoria State Public Service Minister, told SCR News that the exhibition received feelings of joy because South Sudan gained independence through long struggle.

He added that it also makes people emotional because the photos displayed show many heroes and heroines who died for the country.

Nyawir Mayan said that looking back at history inspires people to work hard after achieving freedom that took many lives.

She added that it is good to remind the next generation how the people of South Sudan suffered to be free.

She said that the memory of the martyrs encourages commitment with the future.

Makauc Teny, caretaker minister of Youth and Sport, said the display shows that South Sudan has a new history that began long time ago and it is documented by the relics.

He explained that in order to build a good future it is important to reflect on the past.

Mr. Makauc said the government should show the future generations that the war did not start with the SPLA, but since 1820.

The exhibition that is on display at John Garang’s Mausoleum is organized by SPLM Department of Documentations and Archive.
