Juba residents are experiencing power blackouts for over four days because the ministry of finance is not paying fuel suppliers.

General Manager of South Sudan Electricity Corporation, Ajuoi Magot Chol, told journalist this afternoon in Juba that the city is in darkness because the national ministry of finance refuses to pay the contractor who provides fuel to the corporation.

He explained that the contractor refused to provide fuel since the ministry of finance owes him over 10 million South Sudanese pounds.

Prof. Magot said the Electricity Corporation is not allowed to manage its administration and finances.

He added that the Corporation hands all the money it collects from consumers to the national ministry of finance.

He commented that the ministry has other priorities for the money instead of paying fuel bills.

Prof. Magot said his corporation needs to be made independent from the government or privatized completely in order to function properly.
