A director general in Lakes State Ministry of Labour and Public Service says that the minister’s decision to suspend him has no basis and it is politically motivated.

Marina Martin Legge suspended Abraham Makur Mang’ok last week accusing him of usurping power and nepotism.

She also called the suspended director general a block and an enemy of development.

Mr. Makur told Good News Radio that Ms Legge had no justifiable reason to suspend him, arguing that the charges levelled against him are political.

He said the accusation of mismanaging public funds reported by some media is not mentioned in the suspension letter.

Mr. Makur said he wants to be investigated through an independent auditor.

He explained that he was not managing the funds of the ministry all by himself and that any allegations of mismanagement would implicate the minister herself.

Mr. Makur added that the minister did not allow him to have a free hand in financial matters as the chief accounting officer of the ministry.

He explained that he was a mere signatory who could not withdraw money from the bank without the minister’s authorization letter.

Minister Legge said the decision to suspend the Director General because he was disrespectful and disobedient.

She claimed that besides undermining her authority, Mr. Makur mismanaged the resources of the ministry, was unsuccessful in his duties and lacked teamwork spirit.

Ms. Legge said she suspended him because communications broke down between them.

She said she waited for him for over seven days in order to dialogue in vain.

The building of the new nation will require transparency, accountability and an effort to build trust.
