A Lakes State government official is warning individuals who are digging out the dead from their graves to collect body parts for witchcraft that their evil behaviour is criminal.
Makur Ater Akony is the Public Health Officer for Rumbek Central County in Lakes State. He told Good News Radio that some people who were reportedly involved in some forms of witchcraft are digging out graves and cutting off body parts of the dead.He said security officers are on the lookout for the individuals involved in such an evil behaviour, adding that any single person caught will be considered responsible for all previous acts of grave profanations.
Mr. Ater said the practice of digging for body parts from the dead is totally new in Lakes State.
He called those involved in such behaviour murderers.
Mr. Ater revealed that some graves have been found empty and the dead are dug out from their graves during rainy nights.
It is hard to explain the motivations of stealing from the dead in a community where people generally fear cemeteries and the dead themselves.
