Well known South Sudanese musicians are organizing a six-month peace campaign starting in Pibor and Akobo Counties of Jonglei state to help bring harmony among rival Lou-Nuer and Murle communities.

The campaign, called Voice of Peace, is spearheaded by Murle singer and peace activist Mary Boyoi.

She told SCR News that there have been several clashes between the two remote tribes near the border with Ethiopia that left more than 6000 people dead so far.

Ms. Boyoi said ten musicians from different states are joining her campaign for peace.

She added that musicians are ambassadors of peace and that they will go from house to house talking with people about peace.

Ms. Boyoi said she did no want to organize a peace conference NGO-style.

She said the peace workshops and conferences do not cater for the real perpetrators of peace at grassroots, focusing on politicians and chiefs.

Ms. Boyoi said the campaign has not yet received enough funding but she insisted that peace cannot wait for funds.

She added that all the participating musicians are willing to use their own money if funds are no enough.
