A bishop from the Episcopal Church of Sudan said the humanitarian situation in Southern Kordofan has worsened as Khartoum continues bombardments in the state.

Bishop Paul Yugusuk, who heads the ECS Emergency Task Force for Southern Kordofan, visited recently the region.

He said today in a public lecture in Juba that the situation is horrible and the air bombardments continue targeting civilians in villages or hiding in caves.

He said the health situation has deteriorated to a dangerous level in the state.

Bishop Yugusuk added that Nuba Mountains is served by only one operative hospital with one doctor and four nurses but lacking drugs and other materials.

He added that many people are dying in other health centres due to lack of medicines and specialized care.

Bishop Yugusuk predicted that in two months the situation will be disastrous if nothing is done.

He urged the international community and the UN Security Council to force Khartoum to stop the aerial attacks and to allow international and national humanitarian organizations access to Southern Kordofan.
