RUMBEK NORTH CONSTITUENCY STATE MP DIES

An MP representing Alor Constituency of Rumbek North County in Lakes State Assembly passed away yesterday early in the morning at Rumbek State Hospital.

Stephen Matoc Dut was taken ill on Tuesday while carrying out his legislative duties at the State Assembly in Rumbek and was rushed to hospital where he remained unconscious until he died.

James Matueny Amigo, a close relative, told Good News Radio that Matoc’s health worsened by the hour.

He died on Thursday, at 2 AM.

Rumbek North County Commissioner, Isaac Mayek Noah, said MP Matoc’s death was a great loss to his County, to the State and the new nation of South Sudan.

Mr. Mayek said he and MP Matoc fought alongside during the liberation struggle.

He called the late MP his real brother.

Mr. Mayek added that MP Matoc worked for inter-ethnic reconciliation and peace building initiatives between the communities of Rumbek North, and in Warrap and Unity states.

The body of the late MP was taken to Lakes Legislative Assembly on Thursday afternoon for MPs to pay their last respects.

He was later laid to rest at his home in Malakia, Rumbek.

Mr. Matoc was 40.

He had two wives and nine children.
