Traditional leaders examined their role in building a strong foundation for a united, peaceful and prosperous society, based on justice, equality, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
The traditional chiefs took part in a two-day justice workshop that concluded yesterday in Juba on issues of aimed to highlight issues of local governance and examined the role of traditional authorities.Chief Alex Taban Loaba, Chairman of the Council for Traditional Authority Leaders for Central Equatoria, said the workshop was a means to empower the traditional chiefs with new knowledge so as to perform their judicial functions in conformity with the law.
Chiefs and traditional authorities administer local justice for most South Sudanese.
The meeting was organized by UNDP who continues to provide support to traditional authorities to increase their understanding of human rights and women’s justice issues.
