Parishioners have contributed a total of over 21 thousand Pounds for the roof of Our Lady of Assumption Church under construction in Torit.

Mr. Louis Otto, an announcer at the parish church, said on Sunday the amount was inside almost 600 envelops that were distributed to the community in April to make their contribution towards the new church’s construction.

Mr. Otto said the construction committee received another 40 envelops yet to be opened.

He explained that about 1,180 envelops were distributed in a fundraising campaign named We Are the Church.

Half are still uncollected.

Deputy Chairperson for the Church Construction Committee, Margaret Idwa, praised the positive response of the faithful towards the church building.

She called for an extra effort of generosity to finish the construction work.

Ms. Idwa said the roof is the most expensive stage of the construction.

The Construction Committee has been building Our Lady of Assumption Church by stages.
