The UN expressed concern over the dwindling of humanitarian supplies for the people living in SPLM-North held areas of South Kordofan.
UN official for humanitarian affairs Valerie Amos said in a statement that if the UN is not allowed to access to restock supplies children, elderly people and mothers risk hunger and disease.Humanitarian agencies distributed emergency aid including food and basic medicines to over 70,000 people in mountainous areas of South Kordofan.
Ms. Amos said she was concerned about how people would cope when the emergency food rations they received finish.
The ongoing conflict has prevented people from planting and they may continue to rely on emergency food assistance from humanitarian agencies in order to survive.
Ms. Amos called on all parties to the conflict to allow aid to be brought into South Kordofan and moved into the affected areas to allow humanitarian agencies to restock and assist the much needed vulnerable populations.
