The President of the Republic yesterday ordered South Sudanese with bank accounts overseas to bring their money back into the new nation and help build the economy.
Speaking at the official launch of the new currency, the South Sudanese Pound, Salva Kiir Mayardit said many southerners have huge accounts outside the country. He urged them to repatriate their money into the Central bank of South Sudan.
The comment comes amid concerns about rampant corruption in the country.
International Crisis Group warned in April about the potential for the large-scale diversion of state revenues for the personal enrichment of individuals in positions of power.
