President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday departed Juba for Moscow, Russian Federation, to participate in the Third Russia-Africa Summit scheduled for October 28–29, 2026.

According to the President’s Press Unit, the summit is expected to bring together African leaders and Russian officials to discuss strategic partnerships, strengthen diplomatic relations, and explore opportunities for economic cooperation between Russia and African countries.

Key areas of discussion include trade and investment, energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, education, technology, and security.

South Sudan’s participation comes as the country seeks to strengthen its bilateral relations with Russia and expand cooperation with other African nations. The summit is expected to provide a platform for leaders to exchange views on shared priorities and explore partnerships that could support economic growth and sustainable development.

The meeting will also offer participating countries an opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest and identify potential areas of collaboration in addressing common development and security challenges.

South Sudan’s engagement at the summit is expected to contribute to ongoing diplomatic efforts to expand international partnerships and explore new avenues for cooperation in areas critical to South Sudan’s development as it prepares for general elections in December 2026.
