Sorrow gripped Christians at Our Lady of Assumption Parish Church in Torit town on Sunday following the announcement of the death of Bishop Caesar Mazzolari of Rumbek.

Parish priest Martin Madrara made the announcement during the Sunday mass.

The cleric said the Catholic Diocese of Torit will organize a memorial mass for late Bishop Mazzolari.

Meanwhile Joseph Lokodo, a Member of Parliament in Eastern Equatoria state Assembly, said the death of Bishop Caesar Mazzolari shocked the entire nation of the Republic of South Sudan.

Mr. Lokodo attributed the freedom and independence of the Republic of South Sudan to the dedication of the Comboni Missionaries like late Bishop Mazzolari who persevered to preach the good news against injustice.

Mr. Dominc Otwari, a retired priest in Torit, described late bishop Mazzolari as an exemplary pastor in the republic of South Sudan whose life befits that of a good shepherd of the Lord who was merciful, kind, patient and with all the good virtues.

Bishop Mazzolari collapsed and was later pronnounced dead on Saturday during the Eucharist celebration at the Holy Family Cathedral, in Rumbek.
