The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, His Lordship Bishop Eduardo Hiboro, and the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Gabriel Bol Deng, met on Saturday in Juba to discuss cooperation in promoting civic and voter education ahead of South Sudan’s December general elections.

During the meeting, Bishop Hiboro expressed the Church’s willingness to support voter education, peacebuilding, and the dissemination of accurate electoral information through church structures and the Catholic Radio Network.

The proposed collaboration aims to strengthen public awareness of the electoral process and promote peaceful participation as the country prepares for general elections on December 22, 2026.

National Elections Commission (NEC) Chairperson Bol Deng emphasized that delivering peaceful, inclusive, and credible elections requires collective efforts from all stakeholders, including the guidance and support of religious leaders.

Meanwhile, NEC Commissioner Josephine Achiro called for unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that citizens should be free to choose their leaders without coercion or discrimination based on ethnicity or religion.
