Torit Civil Hospital is still short of qualified staff and its medical officials are not sure when next consignment of drugs arrives for this year.
Acting medical superintendent Dr. Augustine Okwahi lamented to Radio Emmanuel that lack of drugs and inadequate staffing have not changed since last year.He added that GoSS Ministry of Health is responsible for the supply of doctors and drugs.
Dr. Okwahi said if GoSS fails is up to the state government to intervene and save the hospital from its desperate situation.
Dr. Okwahi added that the drugs the government supplies are not sufficient to meet the needs of a large population of patients flocking to seek hospital services and doctors are not enough either.
Drug scarcity and lack of staff in Torit civil hospital force patients to seek health care from private clinics and drug shops at times manned by untrained persons.
Patients are also referred by medical personnel from the hospital to buy drugs from private clinics at their own cost.
