Southerners are returning to the new state of the Republic of South Sudan in increasing numbers.

The UN said yesterday in its Weekly Humanitarian Bulletin that most people are entering South Sudan through Upper Nile.

It added that some 5,000 returnees are gathered in Renk waiting to be transported elsewhere.

Another 7,000 people are already in Kosti, Sudan, awaiting transport to South Sudan.

Humanitarian partners are supporting with emergency assistance.

The document says that since October 2010 almost 320 thousand South Sudanese returned home.
