The National Patriotic Movement (NPM) has called for public resources to be protected from political campaigning, saying state resources must not be used by the ruling party (SPLM) or individuals for electoral purposes in violation of the law.
In a statement on the country’s political developments, the Chairperson and the endorsed Presidential Candidate of NPM Dr. Isaa Muzamil Sebit Makelele said the use of government resources for partisan political activities would undermine equal political space ahead of the December 2026 general elections. The party called for public institutions and state officials to apply the law impartially to all political actors.
Makelele also urged President Salva Kiir to ensure that members of the caretaker government remain neutral and fair in the performance of their duties. The party said caretaker governors and other officials should not be loyal to one political party, but should provide equal political space to all registered parties operating in their areas.
“Public resources must not be used for political campaigns by the ruling party and other individuals contrary to the law,” Makelele said.
The party further called for officials with records of corruption not to be appointed to caretaker positions.
On the Inter-Party Dialogue Isaa Muzamil thanked President Kiir for initiating the process on 30 January 2026, saying it brought together signatories to the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement while also opening participation to interested non-signatory political parties.
The NPM leader says his party is fully registered non-signatory political party, said it has applied to participate in the dialogue scheduled to begin on 24 September 2026.
Makelele stressed that the dialogue has come late and should address key electoral concerns, including political-party funding, security for candidates and parties, a code of conduct, equal political space and equal access to public media.
He called for equal access to public resources and media coverage, arguing that all registered political parties should be given a fair opportunity to conduct lawful political activities.
NPM says impartial application of the law and equal political space are essential to public confidence in the electoral process and acceptance of the election results.
