The governor of Blue Nile said his state will revert to instability if the Sudan Armed Forces try to disarm forcefully SPLA-affiliated soldiers.

Talking to SCR News, Maliik Agaar said the more than 50,000 SPLA affiliated forces in Blue Nile will resist forced disarmament which might lead to a war like that in South Kordofan.

Mr. Agaar said a framework agreement of cessation to hostilities in the two states has been reached with the government of Sudan.

He added that President Omar al-Bashir has reservations on the agreement.

Mr. Agaar explained that the agreement is a win-win situation for them and the government.

He said it is up to Mr. al-Bashir either to choose and implement the agreement or to choose war.

Latest reports from UNOCHA say the security situation in South Kordofan State remains unpredictable, with aerial bombing and gunfire reported again in the vicinity of the state capital, Kadugli town, on 11 July.
