Communities in Morobo, Lainya and Yei River counties in Central Equatoria have been asked to cooperate with civic educators who will travel on the Democracy Bus through the area to sensitize the masses on the elections process.
Programmes Manager of Yei Community Resource Centre, Eric Moses, made the call today while speaking at the closure of a five-day training session for civic educators and journalists who will take part in election sensitization tour that starts on February 8 and runs up to March 12, Radio Emmanuel reported.Mr. Moses urged civic educators and other participants who will be travelling on the Democracy Bus to spread accurate information during the tour in order to enable voters to make informed decisions in the upcoming elections.
Programme Officer for Community Education Focused on Resolving Disputes, Samson Ngota, told the 40 participants drawn from Yei, Morobo and Lainya counties, to be neutral during the sensitization tour.
Mr. Ngota said the Democracy Bus aims at educating and providing relevant information about elections to the communities.
The participants are not allowed to campaign for any political party or candidate standing for election.
Sony Asienzo, a trained participant, said she acquired the necessary civic education skills to enable her pass accurate and balanced information to the community members during the tour.
During the tour that starts with Gulumbi and Morobo on Monday, members from different civil society organizations, musicians, Sudanese and Ugandan artists including students from Denmark will sensitize voters through theatre, music, songs and public debates focusing on elections and democracy.
The Democracy Bus is scheduled to cover at least 15 payams in the three counties.
