President Salva Kiir has called for greater accountability in the implementation of public projects, emphasizing the need to ensure that taxpayers receive value for money and that national development programmes are completed efficiently.

The President made the remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of Terminal Three at Juba International Airport .

Addressing government officials, diplomats, development partners, aviation stakeholders, and invited guests, President Kiir described the inauguration of the new terminal as a proud national achievement and a significant milestone that reflects South Sudan’s growing ambitions for economic development and modernization.

“As we celebrate this success, we must remember the mistakes of the past. I urge all officials responsible for public contracts to conduct thorough due diligence before awarding them. We must ensure that government projects are not delayed by poor management of contracts,” President Kiir said.

He stressed that effective contract management and transparency are essential to ensuring public resources are used responsibly and that development projects are delivered on time.

The President also said the new terminal sends a strong message that South Sudan is open for business and ready to welcome investors, tourists, and development partners seeking opportunities in the country’s growing economy.

“The opening of this terminal demonstrates that we are moving in the right direction. This progress sends a strong positive signal to the world. I invite international investors to partner with us in advancing South Sudan’s aviation sector,” he added.

The state-of-the-art Terminal Three is expected to significantly improve passenger comfort, enhance operational efficiency, strengthen safety and security standards, and expand Juba International Airport’s capacity to handle increasing regional and international air traffic.

Beyond improving air transport, the new facility is anticipated to boost tourism, facilitate trade, attract investment, and create employment opportunities, reinforcing South Sudan’s strategic position as a gateway to East and Central Africa.

The commissioning of Terminal Three reflects the government’s continued commitment to investing in modern infrastructure that supports economic transformation, promotes regional integration, and creates new opportunities for the people of South Sudan.

Held under the theme, “A New Era of Safe, Secure and Sustainable Air Transport for All,” the inauguration marks one of the most significant upgrades to the country’s principal gateway since independence, providing travelers with a modern, world-class facility designed to meet international aviation standards.
