Leaders from Northern Uganda vowed to guide against any interference and protect the prevailing peace in the Republic of South Sudan.
Northern Uganda equally suffered the pains of war at the brutal hands of the Lord’s Resistant Army rebels under Joseph Kony who later transported his atrocities to South Sudan.The LRA bandits fled to Eastern Equatoria state after they incurred losses on their forces and then to Western Equatoria where the rebels have continued inflicting untold havoc on the civilian population.
Agago district Chairman, Peter Dock W’chieng, said while speaking on behalf of the Uganda delegation at Torit Freedom Square in Eastern Equatoria state that they would not allow any enemy to use their areas to disturb the peace in the Republic South Sudan.
Mr. Dock W’ochieng asserted that the people of northern Ugandan can never be in peace without harmony in South Sudan.
He added that the people of South Sudan and northern Uganda have a common responsibility to play towards establishing a lasting peace in the two areas.
He called for continuity of good neighbourhood and seeking achievements together in education, health, agriculture, trade and investments.
Meanwhile, Gidion Moi, who led the Kenyan team, said that his government is ready to offer help to the Republic of South Sudan when needed.
Eastern Equatoria state government had invited representatives from three neighboring countries but no representative from Ethiopia was present while Uganda and Kenya attended the Republic of South Sudan independence celebrations in Torit.
