Traders at Magwi Market are appealing for urgent infrastructure support as heavy rains continue to disrupt business activities and damage goods during the rainy season.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the head of market vendors, Mama Rebecca, said many traders are suffering significant financial losses after repeated flooding destroyed goods stored under temporary shelters.

She explained that most vendors operate in makeshift stalls that provide little protection from heavy rainfall, leaving merchandise exposed to rain and muddy conditions.

Mama Rebecca called on local authorities and humanitarian partners to support the construction of permanent market structures to improve business conditions and protect traders from further losses.

She noted that stable and secure market facilities would not only safeguard goods but also strengthen local trade and improve the livelihoods of many families who depend on the market for income.

The vendors’ leader added that the lack of durable shelters has made it increasingly difficult for traders to sustain their businesses during the rainy season.
