Eastern Equatoria State Governor, Louis Lobong Lojore, has called for peaceful dialogue, unity, and mutual understanding between the communities of Kidepo Valley and Isohe Payam amid discussions surrounding the establishment of the Kidepo Valley Local Government AdministrativeArea.
Speaking during a consultative meeting with representatives from both communities on Thursday, Governor Lobong urged residents to engage in discussions with sincerity and goodwill to resolve the ongoing dispute peacefully.
He assured residents of Isohe Payam that no appointment of a Chief Administrator would be made before comprehensive consultations are conducted with grassroots communities in the area.
The governor stressed that the creation of local government administrative units should not become a source of conflict, insecurity, or division among communities. He further cautioned against establishing government structures along tribal lines and urged political and community leaders to avoid creating confusion among the population.
Governor Lobong also called on politicians to act as agents of peace, unity, and coexistence, while warning against internal border disputes that could threaten harmony among communities. He expressed confidence that misunderstandings surrounding the Kidepo Valley Administrative Area could be resolved amicably and reaffirmed his commitment to peace and the welfare of all citizens.
To ensure transparency and inclusiveness, Governor Lobong announced that a neutral government team would be dispatched to consult communities across the Bomas of Isohe Payam and gather residents’ views on the matter.
However, he cautioned that if the legal and administrative requirements for establishing the Kidepo Valley Administrative Area are not met, the government may be compelled to revoke its establishment.
Meanwhile, representatives from Isohe Payam reiterated their position of distancing themselves from the newly established Administrative Area, stating that they prefer to remain under the administration of Ikwoto County.
In contrast, members of the Kidepo Valley community welcomed the establishment of the Administrative Area. They presented congratulatory messages to Governor Lobong, describing the move as the realization of a long-standing aspiration for their people.
