The Minister of Information in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Samuel Nicola Cornelo, has revealed that at least 16 areas across the state urgently need improved network communication services.

Speaking to Voice of Hope Radio on Wednesday morning in Wau, Minister Cornelo said the information was gathered from county commissioners and highlighted serious communication challenges in several locations.

He noted that Jur River County alone has six areas lacking reliable network coverage, with Alel-Thony identified as the top priority. The minister shared a concerning example of a pregnant woman who reportedly had to climb a tree to access a mobile network signal.

Cornelo added that in Wau County, Khor Gana has been listed as a priority area, while in Raja County, locations such as Timsaha, Bor Madina, and Yabulo Payam urgently need connectivity. Maganya, near Raja, was also mentioned.

However, Samuel Nicola Cornelo clarified that network services are not provided directly by the government but by private telecommunications companies. He explained that such companies consider factors such as population size and business activity before expanding services.

He reassured residents that the government understands their concerns and is closely monitoring the situation.

The minister called on the public to remain patient, noting that efforts are underway to engage service providers and improve network access in affected areas.

Limited access to reliable mobile network services remains a major challenge in many parts of Western Bahr el Ghazal, particularly in remote counties such as Jur River, Wau, and Raja. Poor connectivity continues to affect communication, emergency services, business activities, and information sharing.
