President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on the South Sudan Revenue Authority to intensify efforts to increase non-oil revenue collection, as part of broader measures to strengthen the country’s economy.
The President made the remarks on Monday, May 4, 2026, after receiving a progress report from the Commissioner General, Moun Deng Ajuet, at the Presidency in Juba.
According to the report from the Commissioner General, Moun Deng Ajuet, revenue collections have shown steady growth since February, following a series of administrative reforms aimed at reducing leakages and improving efficiency within the system.
President Kiir emphasized that enhancing domestic revenue mobilization is critical to reducing reliance on oil revenues and ensuring long-term economic stability. He urged the Authority to widen the tax base, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and adopt innovative strategies to sustain the upward trend in collections.
During the briefing, Commissioner General Moun Deng Ajuet attributed the improved performance to reforms that have streamlined operations and minimized revenue losses. He added that the current level of collections is expected to support the government in maintaining timely monthly salary payments for civil servants.
The government has increasingly prioritized non-oil revenue as a key pillar for fiscal sustainability amid ongoing challenges in the oil sector.
