President Salva Kiir Mayardit has returned to Juba following his participation in the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
On arrival at Juba International Airport, the President was received by Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster Taban Deng Gai, together with several senior government officials.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Monday Semaya Kumba, President Kiir held a series of high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit aimed at strengthening South Sudan’s strategic partnerships and promoting regional cooperation.
During the C5 Plus meeting, the Head of State delivered a detailed briefing on the current political situation in South Sudan and outlined his government’s ongoing preparations for the general elections scheduled for December 2026.
President Kiir reiterated that there would be no further extension of the transitional period, emphasizing that South Sudanese citizens must be given the opportunity to elect their leaders through a democratic process.
The 39th AU Summit brought together African leaders to discuss peace, security, and development across the continent, with particular focus on promoting regional stability and economic integration.
