Kenyan President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s electoral preparations ahead of the elections scheduled for December this year.

President Ruto said Kenya will continue to assist in capacity building and strengthening the institutional readiness of South Sudan’s electoral bodies, describing the support as part of a shared regional responsibility to promote credible, peaceful, and democratic elections.

He emphasized that Kenya remains dedicated to advancing peace and security in the region, noting that long-term stability is critical for economic growth and shared prosperity across East Africa.

The remarks followed a meeting at State House in Nairobi between President Ruto and South Sudan’s Presidential Special Envoy, Tut Gatluak Manime, who delivered a special message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Also in attendance were South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Monday Semaya Kumba, and the Tumaini Initiative Chief Mediator, General Lazarus Sumbeiywo.

Kenya has played a central diplomatic role in South Sudan’s peace process, including mediation efforts aimed at supporting political stability and the country’s democratic transition.
