The European Union will send its biggest ever observers mission to monitor the key elections in April 11, an EU official said.

A spokesman for the EU Foreign Affairs chief said the mission will be deployed on the ground in late February, Agence France-Presse reported.

He added that the 130-strong mission it will be the biggest observation mission for the EU.

The spokesman said the EU mission will be led by a member of the European parliament.
The Carter Foundation has been so far the only international body authorized to observe the Sudanese electoral process, leaving many sources to complain that a bigger international presence was necessary.

Some parties have complained that the national monitors belong mostly to the NCP.
