The Deputy Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State has called on the new police administration to prioritize continuous training programs and regular transfers of police personnel to strengthen discipline and professionalism within the force.

Deputy Governor Zakaria Joseph Garang said that although police officers are making significant efforts to maintain law and order, some personnel still engage in conduct that violates police regulations.

“There is a lot of work being done by our police officers, but we still see some behaviors that do not comply with police regulations. These issues must be taken seriously and addressed properly,” Garang said.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring that all police officers fully understand and adhere to police regulations to carry out their duties responsibly and with discipline.

“Every police officer must understand the police laws and regulations so they can serve with discipline, responsibility, and professionalism,” he added.

The Deputy Governor also warned against the prolonged deployment of large numbers of security personnel in markets, noting that such practices could encourage corruption if not properly managed.

“Keeping many security personnel in markets for long periods can create opportunities for corruption, and this needs to be reviewed,” Garang cautioned.

Garang commended police officers who have demonstrated commitment and professionalism, urging all personnel to respect government decisions, carry out their duties responsibly, and fight individual misconduct that tarnishes the image of the state’s security institutions.

The remarks were delivered on Monday during a farewell ceremony for the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Major General Abinko Akol Ayong, and a welcoming ceremony for the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Edward Dimitri Lukak, held at the State Police Headquarters in Wau.
