The Mayor of Juba has forbidden motorbike taxis called boda-boda to do any service in the town’s main streets.

Mohammed Elhaj Baballa told Bakhita Radio that boda-boda services were restricted to residential areas to minimize insecurity and traffic inconveniencies during the independence celebrations.

He added that minibuses called matatus would complement the boda-boda services transporting passengers through Juba’s main streets.

Mr. Baballa said the boba-boda ban from the main streets is permanent.

He added that he plans top replace the matatus operating in the main streets by modern, comfortable and well equipped buses able to carry 40 to 60 passengers.

The mayor said boda-boda services will have their headquarters at the three payams of Juba in order to issue uniforms and control operations within the residential areas.
