A Catholic nun and co-founder of the Little Sisters of St. Bakhita Association in the Catholic Diocese of Wau has urged families and communities to stay close to young people and listen to their problems to prevent risky and reckless behavior.

Speaking during a morning program on Voice of Hope Radio, Sr. Gloria Bakhita Zachariah Usa said young people are often blamed for bad behavior without understanding the underlying causes.

“Not all youth are involved in drug abuse or misconduct,” Sr. Gloria said. “Many young people are struggling because their needs are not met or because they are facing difficult situations.”

She emphasized that having someone to listen to young people can make a significant difference in their lives, noting that while some youth turn to drugs, many others remain committed to positive and responsible living.

Gloria also pointed out that irresponsible parenting can contribute to children developing negative behavior, making guidance and support more difficult later in life.

“Some children behave irresponsibly because they were not guided properly,” she explained.

The nun called on families and communities to listen carefully to young people, understand their struggles and offer guidance and encouragement.

“We must be close to our youth, listen to them, advise them, and help them focus on their future,” she said, encouraging young people to reject harmful behavior and work toward a better tomorrow.

Sr. Gloria’s message highlights the importance of supportive families and communities in guiding young people away from risky behavior. By listening with care and understanding, communities can help youth build hopeful, productive and peaceful futures.
