The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wau, His Lordship Matthew Remijio Adam, has called on government leaders in South Sudan to listen attentively to the voices of citizens, particularly those from vulnerable communities.

Speaking during a program aired on Voice of Hope Radio, Bishop Remijio emphasized that meaningful leadership begins with listening to the people and understanding the challenges they face.

“When leaders listen to the people, they are able to understand their problems and provide the services they truly need,” Bishop Remijio said. “Authority is given by God so that leaders may serve and support those who are most in need.”

The Bishop explained that listening is a fundamental responsibility at all levels of society. He noted that parents must listen to their children, religious leaders must listen to the faithful, and government officials must listen to citizens.

“Without listening to the people, leaders cannot help them effectively or respond to their real needs,” he added.

Bishop Remijio also highlighted the role of listening in preventing conflict, pointing out that many disputes in markets and public spaces arise because people fail to listen to one another.

“Many conflicts happen simply because people do not listen to each other,” he said.

He concluded by stressing that listening is essential for peace, harmony and coexistence within communities.
