The Mayor of Torit Municipal Council in Eastern Equatoria State has revealed plans to supply electricity to Torit Town this year, raising hopes for improved services and economic activity in the area.
Speaking to the media, His Worship Mayor Oyito Baptist said all the necessary requirements for the power system are already in place, with the installation of electricity poles expected to begin in February 2026.
“We already have generators, and Torit will soon be wired with electricity across the town. The government, from the state to the municipality, is committed to this project,” Mayor Oyito said.
The mayor explained that the electricity network will be installed using both metallic and wooden poles, and that technical preparations are already underway.
“By next month, we will start planting the electric poles and mapping the transformers across the town. In terms of electricity, everything is ready,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Eastern Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly, Hon. Charles Odwar Ukech, commended the municipal authority for taking concrete steps to power the town.
“I want to thank the mayor. As we speak, there are already 800 KVA and 500 KVA generators. Next time you visit, you will not be using a hired generator because the mayor is working hard, and as a government, we will stand behind him to ensure this vision is implemented,” Odwar said.
Torit Town has long awaited the introduction of a reliable electricity supply, which residents say will significantly boost development and improve living conditions.
