THOUSANDS BID FAREWELL TO FR. LEOPOLDO ANYWAR

Thousands from Eastern Equatoria state and Uganda turned up yesterday to pay their last respects to late Fr. Leopoldo Anywar whose remains were laid to rest at a Mausoleum in Magwi town.

Fr. Anywar’s remains were flown from Kitgum, Uganda, where he was buried in 1968, to Torit on Saturday.

Archbishop Paulino Lokudu Loro of Juba presided over the reburial rite in Magwi.

He said Fr. Anywar was finally buried in the land he was born.

He asked the Anyanya One hero to bless South Sudan from heaven.

Fr. Anywar was killed on the November 11, 1968 in Kitgum, Uganda.

He received a state burial with gun salutes after the casket was lowered into the tomb.

Fr. Anywar is the second Catholic priest killed during the Anyanya One whose remains are returned home.

Fr. Saturlino Ohure, who also met his death in similar incident and same region of Uganda, was reburied in 2009 in a mausoleum in Torit.
