A cattle raid in East Tonj, in Warrap State, has left two persons dead and another three wounded.

On Saturday, Dinka-Luackoth youths raided an Akok cattle camp. However, the authorities reacted quickly averting a retaliation attack yesterday, Don Bosco FM reported.

Tonj South County police chief inspector, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mayei, said the issue began when the youth from Luackoth raided cattle of Akok, killing two people and injuring another three.

He added that he went immediately to the area together with the deputy governor and Tonj South County commissioner and they found the Akok youths organizing a revenge attack.

He said the authorities were able to stop the Akok youth in time and keep order ahead of the independence celebrations.

Mr. Mayei asked the communities to keep the peace in order to celebrate independence in freedom.

He asked the Akok community to be patient promising that the government and the community will help them.

Mr. Mayei urged the communities in the state to follow law procedures when such incidents happen instead of trying to do justice by their own hands.
