The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) has issued a condolence message following the death of journalist Matia Samuel Timatio, who reportedly drowned in a stream in Yambio town on January 7, 2026.
The tragic loss comes shortly after the death of another journalist, Emmanuel Joseph Akile, further deepening grief within South Sudan’s media fraternity.
The body of the late journalist, who worked with Yambio FM and several other media houses in the country, was found floating in the Nakpangua River on the morning of Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Matia Samuel was widely known as a committed and hardworking journalist. He previously served as a stringer for the Voice of America (VOA) in Western Equatoria State, earning respect for his professionalism and dedication to journalism.
In a statement, AMDISS said its team is deeply shocked by the loss and called on media practitioners and the public to stand in solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
