The Administrator of Imehejek Administrative Area in Eastern Equatoria State has warned that hunger may affect the area in the coming months due to poor harvests.

Administrator Atari Lino said on Wednesday that most farms in Imehejek were destroyed by grasshoppers, leading to low food production.

“People are currently clearing land for the new cultivation season. The harvest was expected to be good, but grasshoppers destroyed most crops. Because of this, the area may face starvation within the next three months.”

The administrator urged residents to carefully manage the little food currently available to help them survive until the next planting season.

He also cautioned the community against bush burning, warning that it could further damage farmlands.

“People should use the little food they have to push them to the next season. We advise them not to burn bushes carelessly, as fires can destroy farms in the area.”

Administrator Atari Lino made the remarks during a telephone interview with Radio Emmanuel 89 FM on Wednesday.
