The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJoSS) in Western Bahr el Ghazal State has donated press jackets to media houses and freelance journalists in Wau, in a move aimed at strengthening professionalism and promoting unity within the journalism community.
The initiative saw the distribution of at least 20 press jackets to journalists operating in the state. According to the union, the donation is intended to enhance journalists’ professional identity, particularly during field reporting, and to foster a sense of belonging among media practitioners.
Speaking to Voice of Hope Radio, the UJoSS State Coordinator, Bedgorni Stephen Musa, said the donation was made possible through support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
He explained that the support is part of preparations by the media sector ahead of the upcoming general elections scheduled for December 2026. He added that the union plans to further strengthen journalists’ capacity through training and other professional development activities before the election period.
Meanwhile, the Director of Voice of Hope Radio, Fr. Gabriel Alfred Nukta, welcomed the initiative, saying the press jackets will support journalists in carrying out their duties, especially while reporting in the field.
He confirmed that out of the 20 press jackets donated by the state journalists’ union, Voice of Hope Radio received six press jackets and one T-shirt.
Media houses that benefited from the donation include Voice of Hope Radio, the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), and freelance journalists working in Wau. Media representatives expressed hope that the gesture will boost journalists’ morale and contribute to professionalism and unity within the media sector in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
