Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on Tuesday conducted an urgent inspection of the Customs Market following Monday’s fire outbreak, which destroyed several shops and caused substantial losses for traders.

The Governor was accompanied by the National Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang; State Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Hon. Lupai Satimon; State Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Stephen Lado Onesimo; Juba City Mayor Christopher Sarafino Wani; and other senior officials.

During the visit, Governor Adil conveyed sympathy to the affected traders and reaffirmed the State Government’s solidarity with them. He commended security forces for their quick intervention and their ongoing efforts to maintain order and safety in the markets.

The Governor urged traders to adopt long-term preventive measures, including the construction of permanent structures and support for market reorganization to minimize future risks. He also announced the formation of a probe committee to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.

Minister Atong appealed to the public to cooperate with the Juba City Council as it clears street vendors to restore order, decongest pathways, and enhance safety for traders and pedestrians.

In a related development, the Governor and his delegation also visited Konyo-Konyo Market, following the recent clearance of roadside vendors.

The State leadership assured the public that the security situation remains stable and encouraged residents to remain calm as the City Council continues its routine efforts to upgrade markets to meet international standards.
