GoSS minister of Agriculture and Forestry said the government is stepping up measures to deal with people who misuse the forests in the region for their own profit using fake permits.

Anne Itto said there are people who used forged documents in order to cut down trees in various states.

She added that she met with the governor of Western Equatoria State and agreed to put in place a mechanism that will check the authenticity of documents provided by loggers.

Dr. Itto said the meeting also resolved communication issues which will help to single out people who want to make illegal money through forestry in South Sudan.

Dr. Itto made this announcement on Friday at Juba Airport upon her arrival from Yambio where she studied ways of raising food production in South Sudan.
