Upper Nile State Legislative Assembly members elected a ew speaker and his deputy on Friday.
Chol Chuol Arop, who was the state Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, was elected to the post of speaker and Chuol Diep deputy speaker, Voice of Love FM reported.Both officials are SPLM members.
Acting speaker Joseph Deng Forash sad the MPs elected a new speaker because the former speaker has been ill for about more than ten months, unable to carry out his functions and duties.
He added that it was wise for the parliament to release the speaker and appoint a new one.
Mr. Forash explained that party and assembly officials tried to find the whereabouts of the former speaker to meet him but they did not succeed.
The deputy speaker had resigned during the week.
