The U N has strongly condemned yesterday’s arrest of six of its national staff by the Sudan Armed Forces as they were boarding a plane to fly from Kadugli to Wau and demanded their immediate release.

The six Sudanese were part of a UNMIS group preparing to leave Kadugli for Wau as part of a relocation scheme due to the heavy fighting taking place in South Kordofan.

UNMIS issued a strong statement demanding the immediate release of its detained staff.

It also urged SAF to respect the Status of Forces Agreement signed by the government of Khartoum and UNMIS.

The agreement says the Government is obliged to present the UNIS head with evidence prior to taking any legal action against any peacekeeper, national or international.
