The Catholic bishop of Rumbek is to ordain to the diaconate a seminarian from his diocese.
Marko Tong Dihany, 33, who will be ordained deacon on Sunday, told Good News Radio that his background was common to many Dinka boys from his place.He said he started formal education at the age of 14, because his father kept him at home to look after the cattle.
Seminarian Tong said he did his secondary education in Khartoum, studied Philosophy in Nairobi, Kenya and Theology at St. Paul’s National Major Seminary in Khartoum.
He said he found many resistances from his family and from the community to his idea of becoming a priest.
He added that he was happy because his family respected his choice.
Seminarian Tong who is from Aweil East County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, said his ordination will kick off the Independence celebrations.
