The Head Chief of Agoro Payam, Mr. Okot Sonic Rumeo, has issued a heartfelt appeal for immediate intervention following the destruction of the area’s only local health facility.

Speaking to the media, Chief Okot revealed that the Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) in Agoro was vandalized in March during a cattle-related conflict, leaving thousands without access to basic healthcare services.

“As we speak, women and children are forced to walk more than 20 kilometers to Magwi town to seek medical attention,” said Chief Okot. “This puts their lives at great risk, especially during emergencies.”

The Chief emphasized the critical need to rehabilitate the health facility, stating that restoring the PHCU would relieve immense pressure on vulnerable populations and help rebuild the area’s public health capacity.

“We are appealing to non-governmental organizations, development partners, and well-wishers to come to our aid and help renovate the PHCU so that our people can access healthcare at their doorstep,” he urged.

Agoro Payam is currently grappling with post-conflict recovery and limited infrastructure, further compounding the challenges faced by its residents. Local leaders echoed the Chief’s plea, calling on stakeholders to prioritize the health and wellbeing of rural communities.
