The Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Emmanuel Primo Ukello, has called on women to actively participate in market-based economic activities alongside men, driving the state’s development agenda forward.
Speaking at the opening of the Gender Forum on Women’s Rights and Sustainable Development on Friday in Wau, Governor Primo emphasized the state government’s readiness to support women’s economic initiatives in the upcoming phase.
“The full participation of women in economic activities is key to achieving sustainable growth. We encourage women to bring forward their ideas and help shape policies that will support them in market spaces,” he stated.
Governor Primo also emphasized the importance of women holding leadership roles in the economic sector, stating that their presence will not only empower them but also contribute to the broader development of the state.
“We need women in economic decision-making roles. This builds their capacity and strengthens the state’s economy,” he added.
Despite growing support, many women in the state still face challenges in fully participating in the labor market due to the dual burden of work and family responsibilities. The forum served as a platform to address these barriers and explore ways to improve women’s access to economic opportunities.
