Residents of Torit Municipal Council, Eastern Equatoria State, are being urged to take an active role in maintaining local security by patrolling their areas.

Mayor Oyito Baptist Ben made the remarks during a community dialogue on the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse in Hai-Askal, organized by COMSECOM and supported by the Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.

The mayor noted a decline in gang activity but warned that armed robberies remain a threat.

“People in each residential area should patrol their neighborhoods… if someone is found moving with a weapon and threatening people, it is a serious threat, especially for children,” he said. “If caught, they will face consequences.”

“Take responsibility. If someone is drunk and causing disturbance, call for emergency support. We will respond,” the mayor added.

Oyito urged the public to report any suspicious activity and affirmed the municipality’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment.
