Carmela Santino|CRNThe Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wau, His Lordship Matthew Remijio Adam, has called upon the faithful to offer prayers for His Holiness Pope Leo XIV as he begins his sacred mission of unifying and guiding the Church during a time of global crisis.

Speaking at a thanksgiving Mass held at St. Mary Help of Christians Cathedral Parish, Bishop Remijio expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the appointment of the new Holy Father.

He reminded the congregation that Pope Leo XIV is not only the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church but also the sovereign of the Vatican State.

“We thank God for giving us a new leader,” said the bishop. “But we must also pray for him, especially as he takes on this role during a time of war, injustice, and social unrest.”

The bishop emphasized the immense responsibilities that lie ahead for the new pontiff and encouraged Christians to support him through consistent prayer.

“He has to work hard for peace and raise his voice where justice is lacking,” he added. “It is his divine mission to lead God’s people toward holiness.”

In his message, Bishop Remijio called for God’s mercy and grace to strengthen Pope Leo XIV in his leadership.

“As we come together to thank the Lord for the gift of our new pope, we also ask for divine support to help him continue his mission faithfully,” he said.

Pope Leo XIV is the 267th successor of Saint Peter and now serves as the spiritual leader of over one billion Catholics worldwide.
